Andy Hayward Signs After Personal Success at World Cup

Andy HaywardAndy Hayward World Cup Hat trick against South Africa

HWHC are very pleased that Andy Hayward has signed for us for the next campaign.

The video (above) shows him completing the first of 2 hat-tricks at the 2014 World Cup, leaving him 2nd place in the top-scorer charts. We are certainly looking forward to him recreating those feats while wearing the blue and white stripes of HWHC. However I am sure all of you want to know more about him, so here are some little known facts that were recently gleaned from him in an interview (otherwise know as a Google search!).

  • New Zealand Caps (statistics correct up to 16th May 2014): 169
  • New Zealand Goals (statistics correct up to 16th May 2014): 64
  • Date of Birth: 22/06/1985
  • Place of Birth: Kawakawa
  • Position: Midfield / Defence
  • Career High: Making debut for NZ team (Probably to be topped by debut for HWHC shortly)
  • Career Low: Breaking foot in NHL 2005
  • Toughest Opponent: Argentina
  • Strengths: Speed, Passing (They must be good given drag-flicking does not get a mention)
  • Most Admired Sportsperson: Darren Lockyer
  • Favourite Food: Chicken Tikka Masala
  • Favourite Music: Old school rock (Nice!)
  • Dislikes: Over ripe bananas & injuries
  • Advice for Young Players: Train hard, listen and learn

Welcome Andy and looking forward to a great 2014/15 season.
