HWHC has a long history of Olympians

Arguably our most famous dates back to 1898 when S.H. Shoveller joined HWHC. Known as the Prince of centre forwards and the immortal centre, "Shove" won 29 caps for England at a time when there were far fewer internatinal than now. He is the only British Hockey player to win 2 gold medals in London 1908 and Antwerp 1920. Records are incomplete but it's estimated Shove scored 1600 goals and was responsible for a thirds of all goals scored by the club
