2nd XIs aiming for big things in uncharted territory

It's not just a big season for our two first XIs, the Men's 2s and Ladies' 2s are also entering unknown territory as they play for promotion to the National League Conference, from the top tiers in the South Leagues.

The Ladies' 2s started life in South Division 1 with a fine 4-0 win away to Surbiton last week, and this Saturday take on Marlow 1s at Pad Rec at 11:30, before our Ladies' 1s face Clifton Robinsons in the Premier League.

Ladies' 2s captain Sharon Konfederak is excited at the new challenge; "We have had many new additions to the squad, but kept the backbone of our team and will push for a second promotion in a row into the Conference! We are lucky enough to have kept our coaching team Toby Reynolds-Cotterill and Joe Hyllier and work closely with the 1s coaching team. Toby and Joe were key to our performance last season, unbeaten since November 2018. They are a great combination of skills and strategy (and great support to me when I’m going crazy)."

The girls would love to see a big home crowd for their first home game in South Div 1.

The Men's 2s face South League opposition for the first time on Saturday, with a challenging away trip to Guildford 1s. After dominating the London Premier League for many seasons, a move was allowed into South Prem, and a chance to go for promotion to the National League Conference.

Captain Mike Newman is looking forward to a new league "The lads are all excited for the new challenge that South Prem provides. The goal this season is promotion into the National Conference and we believe we have the depth in squad and ability to achieve this. It’s encouraging to also know the club share our ambition and we are very pleased to welcome David Cooper as Men's 2s coach and to be training more closely with the Men's 1s, as we look to compete with the best 1st XIs the South League have to offer. One thing we'll miss about the London League is we'll no longer have Canterbury away to look forward to, but i’ve been reliably informed Winchester has an equally good selection of charcuterie and wine establishments which we will look to enjoy."

It's an incredible time at Hampstead and Westminster with the top four teams playing such a high level of hockey, so make sure to check the fixtures and head down to support them all... and anyone else in blue and white stripes!
